Brunelleschi's Dome--How a Renaissance Genius Reinvented Architecture

Brunelleschi’s Dome--How a Renaissance Genius Reinvented Architecture by Ross King is the History Book Club selection for September. It is a fascinating look at the construction of one of the world’s iconic buildings---the cathedral in Florence, Italy. It was an opportunity to try new designs and engineering tactics. Amazingly the dome took only 25 years to build. The great leap of creating a supporting dome built over thin air vs. using flying buttresses was a huge achievement. The author has written a highly readable book about an exhilarating period in history. (Non-Fiction)
