Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly is an excellent police procedural, with multiple cases providing interest alongside the main cold case. Bosch and Ballard are a great duo with complementary skills. Connelly has continued to develop Bosch’s character and he is aging well. He’s cynical without being grim, and a realist when it comes to trying to understand the criminal mind. He has seen it all by now and it’s to Connelly’s credit that Bosch remains a fresh and fascinating character after dozens of books.
