Dear Mrs. Bird by A.J. Pearce is a charming confection about a young “journalist” in London during WWII. Her dream is to become a war correspondent, and just when she thinks she has gotten close to realizing this goal life steps in with a surprise opportunity. The author researched the women’s magazines of the period so she could capture readers’ desire for some normalcy amid the chaos of the home front. The characters are resilient and charming. There are many laugh out loud moments despite the serious setting. Looking for answers can certainly be funny sometimes!
