THE ROWAYTON LIBRARY PRESENTS...
Programs and services dedicated to educating and entertaining our community

BibliOak

The Rowayton Library changed to a new catalog on May 31st, along with its partners in the Bibliomation Consortium.  The new catalog, called BibliOak, contains all the books, movies, music, and other items we have always carried.

If you have a few minutes, you just might want to log into your Rowayton Library Account and check on borrowed items, items on hold, and verify your email address in the new system.

You will need your Rowayton Library Card barcode number to access your account.

And why would you want to do this?

  1. to make sure your account correctly reflects what you believe you have checked out.
  2. to make sure that your holds (if you have any in place) are correctly in place.
  3. to make sure that if you want your overdue notices to go to you via email, that we have the correct email address and if you want your notices to go to you via snailmail, that we have your account marked as such.

  3. Your Username is your Rowayton Library Barcode
  4. Your Password is current set with the Last Four (4) digits of Your Telephone Number
  5. You will be prompted to change your password.

Will there be new features with BibliOak?

Below are answers to some common questions.  If you have additional questions, please contact the Rowayton Library at library@rowayton.org or 203-838-5038.

  • Why change - can't we keep the old catalog?

The Rowayton Library is part of the Bibliomation Consortium, and we share our catalog with the other 60+ Bibliomation libraries.  The catalog we had been using, Horizon, was discontinued by SirsiDynix.  After evaluating many options, our consortium chose to migrate to BibliOak for all of the Bibliomation libraries.

  • When is this change happening?

Migration to the new system is planned for the Memorial Day weekend.  The current system will be taken down at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 26th, and the new system will go live on Tuesday, May 31st at 10 a.m.

  • What if I have items due to be returned during this Memorial Day Weekend?

Not to worry.  Any items due or returned to the library during this period will not incur any incorrect fines.

  • Will Service be Disrupted?

Yes, there will be some interruption in our normal services.  The library will be closed on Friday, May 27th through Monday, May 30th.  The online catalog will be available over the weekend with limited features.  You will not be able to renew or place holds during this migration period.  But, Overdrive will still be accessible for eBooks and audiobooks downloading.

  • What happens to all my holds and requests?

Bibliomation staff have been working hard to make sure all patron data (names, contact info, requests, etc.) is carried over to the new system.  If you notice anything missing, please contact the Rowayton Library at library@rowayton.org or 203-838-5038.

  • What about booklists I've created in My List?

BibliOak has a similar feature called the Bookbag.  All My List information will be migrated to your BibliOak Bookbag.

  • Should I print out copies of My Lists, My Holds and My Searches?

No, you shouldn't need to.  We're confident that all this data will migrate to BibliOak just fine.  But if it would make you feel more comfortable, then go ahead and print the information that is most important to you, such as items checked out, your holds list, My List titles, etc. in order to ensure that you have a backup of that information.

  • Why did we spend money on a new catalog during these tough economic times?

Since our catalog was no longer supported, a change had to be made.  The new open source software allows us to do that at significantly lower costs - it eliminates the costs of yearly software license renewals, distributes development costs amongst multiple libraries, and also puts us more in control of future developments.  Which, in fact, is one of our primary concerns:  Horizon was old and outdated, and BibliOak provides us with the ability to expand and update the catalog to meet patrons' needs for many years to come.
