Lubna and Pebble by Wendy Meddur take place in a refugee camp. Lubna's best friend is a pebble she has decorated with a smiley face. Pebble is a stalwart companion and listens to all Lubna’s stories and troubles. When a new little boy comes to the camp Lubna shares pebble with him so he won’t feel so alone. The end is a powerful lesson on the importance of friendship and giving. The illustrations convey the difficult atmosphere the children live in.
