OrigamiOrigami Workshop for Kids @ the Rowayton Library for Kids of all ages,

Monday Afternoons @ 2pm (through August 9th)

Origami is the traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century AD and was popularized in the mid-1900s. It has since then evolved into a modern art form. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of material into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques, and not using cuts or glue.

Learn the art of Origami at the Rowayton Library.  This program is for children of all ages.  Each week there will be a workshop on a different origami creation.  For more information, please call the Library at (203) 838-5038 or visit us on the web at www.Rowayton.org.  This program is free and open to the public.

Eco-DetectiveEco-Detective BookTalk for Kids (ages 6-9)

Tuesday @ 5pm - Pizza Pizza Pizza

Of course there are many types of detectives and as part of our summer reading challenge, the Rowayton Library is have a book talk for kids:  Eco-Detective - Keep it Green!  for kids ages 6-9.  This will be on Tuesday evenings at 5 p.m. starting July 6 through August 13.  And, with the talk is pizza, pizza, pizza.

This series offers a delightful literary experience in a mix of genre (fantasy, realistic fiction, and nonfiction) while bringing awareness of the importance of being “green.” How can we lessen our impact on the earth? What can we do about litter, pollution, global warming, endangered animals, trash, and recycling? Discussion supports critical thinking skills such as text-to-text and text-to-self.

You will meet a worm with a sense of humor, a pink house that misses the country, and the impetuous and delightful Judy Moody and her brother Stink. You will also meet the wizard who wants to get rid of trash forever, and Miss Rumphius who wants to make the world more beautiful. You will visit the world of the whimsical wumps before and after the invasion of the Pollutians, read why the earth is getting warmer, and then compute math with the Maple Street School Save-the-Planet Club. Though a serious topic, this collection of books handles being “green” in a positive manner by showing how kids can make the choice to be “green.” (For ages 6-9 and a parent or caregiver).

And, the Rowayton Library is proud to have our favorite storyteller Lot Therrio lead the discussion.  Multiple copies of the books are available at the Rowayton Library.   This program is made possible -  in part - through a grant from the Connecticut Humanities Council.  Pizza - Pizza - Pizza @ 5 p.m. and BookTalk at 5:30 p.m.   REGISTRATION PLEASE!  Space is limited (203) 838- 5038 or RSVP@Rowayton.org.
