The Lager Queen of Minnesota by J. Ryan Stradal is the heartwarming story of Helen and Edith, sisters raised on a farm in MN and currently living very different adult lives. Craft beer making and the Midwestern food world are the backgrounds for the warring sisters’ lives. The characters are very relatable, with hopes, dreams, and setbacks ending with a resolution that feels authentic. It’s a great summer read with a sophisticated prose style and exceptional character development. These are people you want to spend time with, root for, and yes, have a beer with!
