A Way to Garden--A hands-on primer for every season by Margaret Roach is an excellent overview of the sport of gardening. She is a widely admired garden expert. “A garden without a gardener is a jungle waiting to happen” but if you follow her lead you can tame the beast. She has divided the year into 6 sections lasting roughly 2 months each. She has good ideas, like buying early/middle/late varieties of your favorite plants to extend bloom time (daffodils and peonies can have 6 week long cycles if you follow this advice). Plentiful tables and photographs bring creating natural, pleasurable outdoor spaces within reach of everyone.
