Animal Misfits: Odd, Bizarre and Unlikely Creatures (PG) 60 minutes

ANIMAL MISFITS: Odd. Bizarre and Unlikely Creatures DOCUMENTARY (PG) Nature and PBS bring us this fascinating collection of Odd, Bizarre and Unlikely Creatures that live alongside the fastest, strongest smartest of animals, whose unusual appearances make them misfits in the animal world. At first glance, they seem ill-equipped for survival, apparent losers in the story of evolution, yet somehow they still manage to cling to life and in some cases even thrive. They come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny chameleons the size of an ant to mole rats with very big heads and pudgy flightless parrots whose food source is up in the trees. There are penguins that live in the forest, fish that live out of the water, and Arctic caterpillars that live for 7 years or more but spend most of their lives frozen stiff. The list goes on. Yet these unlikely creatures are not evolutionary dead ends. They're highly specialized success stories, animals that prove to be different can also give you an edge.
