This truncated season manages to provide great sendoffs to all the major characters left on the show. The structure of this season is a bit atypical as it takes a page from Godfather II with a past storyline (the rise of Nucky Thompson) being told alongside the present storyline (the fall of Nucky Thompson) throughout the entire season. And this works very well as it helps to reinforce the major theme of this season: no matter how hard you try, you can't escape your past.
