As Pittsburgh’s brilliant forensic neuropathologist, he made the first discovery of CTE, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player and fought for the truth to be known. Pro players were exhibiting symptoms that could not be accounted for or treated effectively. Brain damage happens to football players who suffer repeated concussions in the course of normal play. Omalu’s emotional quest puts him at dangerous odds with the NFL, one of the most powerful institutions in the world.
