EFFIE GRAY –-Movie--(PG-13)--Written by and co-starring Academy Award winner Emma Thompson, Effie Gray is a sumptuous historical drama set against a luscious backdrop exploring the scandalous love triangle between Victorian art critic John Ruskin (Greg Wise), his young bride Effie Gray (Dakota Fanning), and his protégé, painter John Everett Millais (Tom Sturridge). After marrying Ruskin, Effie quickly realizes her marriage is a lie when Ruskin refuses to consummate it. Yearning for affection, yet living with Ruskin’s cold parents, she falls ill, only to be returned to health in the warmth of Venice. When the charismatic artist Millais is commissioned by the parent’s to paint Ruskin’s portrait, they are thrown together with only her now cold and distant husband in the wilds of Scotland. She comes to admire and rely on Millais while her husband becomes more estranged and aloof. Desperate to be freed from her sham marriage, Effie embarks on a life-changing journey to become one of the first women in history to seek a divorce from her husband.
