In his homeland of Alagaesia, a farm boy, Eregon (Ed Speleers), happens upon a dragon's egg, that eventually hatches to reveal Saphira, a blue-scaled dragon, a discovery that leads him on a predestined journey as a dragon rider. He realized he's the one person who can defend his home against an evil king, Galbatorix (John Malkovich) with the help and guidance of a heroic mentor Brom (Jeremy Irons), a former dragon rider. All of this is precipitated by an intelligent, brave, fair maiden Arya (Sienna Guillory) who is fighting against the evil king and is tortured by a Shade sorcerer, Durza (Robert Carlyle) until rescued by Eregon. Lots of suspense, fights, escapes, danger and success to satisfy all.
