Even the Dead by Benjamin Black (author John Banville’s pen name) bring back the ever-fascinating Quirke, the alcoholic pathologist. This entry in the series finds Quirke and his daughter enmeshed in mysteries that fit the brooding atmosphere of 1950’s Dublin. Both his assistant Sinclair and Detective Hackett are enlisted to help solve the murder of a young man who purportedly committed suicide. He is arrayed against powerful forces who do not want the truth to come out.
