Girl

Girl  by Edna O’Brien is ripped from the headlines. The narrator is a young Nigerian girl who is part of a group kidnapped by Boko Haram. It focuses on the emotional lives of women and girls enduring the most horrific circumstances. Spare, perfect prose describes the hellish life they lead as the women are subject to the cruel whims of the Boko Haram warriors. It’s believable because it actually happened in 2014 and is still happening now. This relatively short novel packs a wallop.
