In a House of Lies

In a House of Lies by Ian Rankin has John Rebus up to his trademark tricks despite being technically retired from the Edinburgh police force. A long-dead body turns up, setting off a cascade of events that reach back to an old case Rebus once worked on. He manages to insinuate himself into the investigation and watches over his old partner Siobahn Clarke as she navigates the perilous politics of both gangsters and police. This is a solid procedural that delivers on all fronts.
