Into Oblivion: An Icelandic Thriller by Arnaldur Indridason is the second prequel about Inspector Erlendur’s early days in the police force. The book takes place in 1979 when the USA had a large base in Iceland near Reykjavik. Erlendur is working both a current murder and a missing person cold case. The sense of place is very strong; Iceland’s singular landscapes and weather are characters unto themselves. This Icelandic noir series has many fans with good reason.
