King Louie’s Shoes by D.J. Steinberg, illustrated by Robert Neubecker, is a hoot. Louis XIV is fairly short and this is a conundrum when you are the king and need to be high and mighty. He tries tall hairstyles, bigger thrones and finally hits on the idea of high heels for his shoes. Even though they prove difficult when dancing they are an immediate hit with everyone and the style persists (for women!) to this day. The illustrations are exceptional.
