Luli and the Language of Tea

Luli and the Language of Tea by Andrea Wang, illustrated by Hyewon Yum, is a delightful story about the way that friendship can triumph over language barriers.  In Miss Hirokane’s school, a playroom filled with children is surprisingly quiet, because none of the children can speak the same language, so they play alone. But Luli, who speaks Chinese, gets a wonderful idea. With help from Miss Hirokane, she takes a thermos of tea out of her backpack and begins to share it with her friends. As each child says the word “tea” in his or her native language, they all learn something about each other’s cultures, while sharing something together! This is a beautiful book, complete with interesting facts about the way tea is prepared around the world.
