Maybe Something Beautiful--How Art Transformed a Neighborhood by Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell and illustrated by Rafael Lopez is based on a true story. The vivid colors that explode off the pages are initially the result of the efforts of a young girl who loves to paint. She is soon joined by a traveling muralist and many people in the neighborhood as they transform their grey surroundings with brightly painted murals, benches and utility boxes. The illustrator is the original muralist in the San Diego area that is the inspiration for the story.
