Modern Lovers

Modern Lovers by Emma Straub is very clever and entertaining. It follows the lives of three aging college band mates currently living in Ditmas Park, raising children and heading into their fifth decade. They were a one hit wonder long ago, and now struggle with the more pedestrian aspects of modern life, their relationships with children and each other. The wry observations of their teenage children about their parents, school and neighborhood are especially funny and pointed. This is an enjoyable, well-written look at people who might have been caricatures under a less sure hand.
