Mike Leigh with Timothy Spall as J.M.W. Turner, famous British 19^th century artist. Turner is gregarious with any man, helpful, talkative, but with women, as was very true of this time period, he barely spoke to the women in his life, mostly grunting a yes or no answer or ordering this or that to be done. However, don’t let this fault you from watching this film. Twenty-five years of his history is spanned in this film, which shows many aspects of an artist’s life in this time period. It is rich with landscapes that look like canvases and the quiet secretive life this man led while painting in an impressionistic style unique to English painters of his time.
