My Fourth of July by Jerry Spinelli is a joyous celebration of this favorite summer holiday. It starts with the preparation for a day to be spent at the community park. The young boy is over the moon excited about being in charge of critical things like dusting the deviled eggs with paprika and not forgetting the cherry pie. The festivities in the park are classic, old fashioned events like sack races, softball and face painting. Of course, it all concludes with a fireworks display and a tired and very happy little boy. The illustrations by Larry Day are colorful and engaging.
