On Baba’s Back by Marianne Dubuc is an adorable board book about a tiny koala’s baby steps toward independence. Koko the baby loves to ride on Baba’s back and they do everything together: eat, play, take a bath, and walk. But one day on their walk, Koko wants to go a different way than Baba. Koko ventures off for a little jaunt and loves it! But, by nightfall, Koko is happily back sleeping on Baba. The story is easy for early readers to grasp (and recognizable to parents!) and the illustrations are studded with cute details, like Koko eating a pink ice cream cone while Baba munches on eucalyptus leaves.
