Outside Art by Madeline Kloepper has a lovely original premise that leads to lots of back and forth about the meaning of art. The woodland animals are watching an artist at work, with the pine marten observing ”human is putting colors on a board using a furry stick--Why?” Each bird and mammal has an idea, some are thoughtful, others pretty funny (the moose wonders if the artist is making a mating display). The joy they express when they realize they can all be artists and leave their marks in the snow is wonderful.
