River Road by Carol Goodman is suspenseful and atmospheric. The author teaches creative writing and has used her experience as a back story for some murderous doings. Set at an upstate New York university, the novel starts with an accusation of hit and run against a professor. Events unspool from there and complications ensue. The characters are well developed and believable.
