Sea Otter Heroes

Sea Otter Heroes by Patricia Newman has subtitled the predators that saved an ecosystem. In the Northern California coastal delta called the Elkhorn Slough sea otters thrived. Even though it was at the edge of the Salinas Valley (America’s salad bowl) and subject to fertilizer runoff, the slough’s seagrass was very healthy. This puzzled Brent Hughes, a young marine biologist. This eye-opening, lavishly photographed book, traces his experiments and the surprising conclusions about how the actions of a top of the chain predator keep the environment healthy. All ages will learn something from this engrossing book. (Non-Fiction)
