Swing Time

Swing Time by Zadie Smith is wonderful. As expected there is great writing and detailed and believable character development. A predominantly London setting among Jamaican immigrant families is very atmospheric. The love of dance unites two young friends and for a time manages to bridge their differences. As they mature and take different paths surprising truths emerge, especially for the narrator who works with a famous pop star with questionable intentions guiding her charity work in Africa. This is a moving exploration of the power of friendship.
