THE DARK HORSE – Movie--(R)--A brilliant but troubled New Zealand chess champion Gen, Genesis Potini (Cliff Curtis) finds purpose by teaching underprivileged children about the rules of chess and life. Based on the powerful true story of his life with bipolar disorder and after years spent in and out of mental institutions, Gen is released into the care of his older brother Ariki (Wayne Hapi), a street gang leader. When he volunteers to train a group of disadvantaged Maori kids for the upcoming National Chess Championships, it puts him at odds with the gang’s agenda.  The story is about Gen finding the courage to lead despite his own struggles, finding purpose & hope in passing on his gift to the children of his community, especially his young nephew.
