The Dry by Jane Harper is set in drought-stricken, small town Australia. Aaron Falk is seconded from the Melbourne police to the tiny town where he grew up after a family is found murdered. The potential suspects are legion and may go back to a long ago, deadly day that Aaron was a part of. The sense of place is very strong. The cruelty of the severe weather and the still-raw wounds from the past haunt the present. This is vividly rendered, tense and hard to put down.
