The final segment of Tolkien’s ‘ there and back again’ tale opens with the dragon Smaug attacking of Esgaroth or Lake-Town, on Long Lake. The town is afire, people are panicking in the streets, as the behemoth flies over head breathing fire over and over again. From this terrifying beginning, the tension and excitement and dangers never cease for neither the people of Lake-Town, the dwarves in the mountain, nor the wizards, Gandalf and Radagast who are trapped by the evil in the tower, know what to expect next. Elves, men, orc and goblins descend upon Thorin and the Company, including their thief, Bilbo Baggins.
