They May not Mean To, But They Do by Cathleen Schine is quite funny at the same time it is spot on about the generational conflicts that can arise in families. The Bergman’s are recovering from the death of the family patriarch, and the children have strong ideas about how their mother can best run her life as a widow. She surprises them all though, and everyone has to adjust or be left behind. Schine has always written perceptively about the complications of family life; this is an often-hilarious addition to her work.
