When Breath Becomes Air by Dr. Paul Kalanithi is a wonderful, heartbreaking book. The author, a newly minted neurosurgeon, died of lung cancer at the age of 37. The book is uplifting and thoughtful despite the tragic circumstances. Dr. Kalanithi’s life was full, perhaps overfull, when the bad news came. How do you prepare for such a foreshortened future? His wise thoughts, combined with the input from his family, make this an important book.
