When the Music’s Over by Peter Robinson features newly promoted DS Banks supervising multiple stressful cases that span decades. Taking a page from the headlines, the first case involves charges against a beloved media figure for an assault that happened fifty years ago. The more recent case has DI Annie Cabot investigating the murder of a young woman. This is a superb police procedural revolving around women’s issues. Not always easy to read but thought provoking and tense like the best of Robinson’s work. Banks and Cabot never get old.
